For the 76th year, the holiday tree is up in front of the Pantages Theater at South 9th Street and Broadway. The long-standing, traditional holiday tree-lighting celebration will take place on Saturday, November 27, beginning at 5 p.m.

Nominations for the City of Tacoma’s City of Destiny Awards, which has been honoring local volunteers for the past36 years, are open now and due on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022.
“The City of Destiny Awards Ceremony provides a place to recognize those who create vibrancy in our community and make the City of Destiny what it is,” said City Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) Chair Jessica Johnston. "The awardees represent the pulse of the community, and they instill in us all a desire to give back."

The City of Tacoma’s Events & Recognitions Committee (CERC) is now accepting nominations for the Lifetime Service Award and the Emerging Leader Award for individuals or groups to be honored for their community service at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Nov. 8, 2021.
Celebrate 20 Years of Tacoma Arts Month this October
October 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of Tacoma Arts Month – 31 days dedicated to celebrating the arts in our community. The month is full of virtual and in-person arts and culture programs with something for everyone to enjoy: music, dance and theater performances; visual art exhibits; literary readings; lectures; workshops; film screenings and cultural events.
Application for 2022 Community Arts Projects Funding Now Available
The City of Tacoma is now accepting Community Arts Projects funding applications from eligible organizations and groups producing publicly accessible arts programming, across all artistic disciplines, within Tacoma city limits in 2022. Applicants can apply for either $3,000 or $6,000 for their project. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 PM on November 1, 2021.

This new initiative will promote an accommodating and positive experience for all guests and fans in alignment with the department’s mission and values to provide inclusive and welcoming spaces.
