The City of Tacoma’s Events & Recognitions Committee voted to approve $125,000 of Special Events funding for 23 organizations to produce events throughout Tacoma in 2023. These events are free, inclusive, all ages events, which reflect many of the diverse communities and cultures throughout Tacoma.

The 11-member committee is comprised of Tacoma residents, with representatives from each of Tacoma's five Council Districts, who bring a range of perspectives and expertise that focus on the City’s commitment to celebrate civic engagement and special observations, are knowledgeable and passionate about volunteers and their valued contribution to their communities and enjoy working with others to recognize those who give back.
Celebrate Juneteenth in Tacoma
In December 2021, The Tacoma City Council passed Ordinance 28794 designating June 19, Juneteenth, as an officially observed holiday by the City of Tacoma.
